Abu Dhabi Development: Saadiyat Island
Saadiyat Island project, which will transform the 27 square kilometre natural island, just 500 metres offshore the United Arab Emirate’s capital city, into a strategic international tourism destination by 2018. The Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), which will oversee Saadiyat’s mixed-use development. In this essay I will write about the energy saving features, missing energy saving features and planned features to reduce greenhouse emissions in Saadiyat Island.
As energy saving strategies, there are controlled daylight supply to replace artificial lighting, solar protection of facades and roof opening, well shaded building skin with ventilated cavity, optimised displacement ventilation system to minimize fresh air demand and wind induced ventilation. There are some effects of the energy saving, I didn’t see it here in this project plan.The UAE emits 60 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year per person, making it one of the world’s top contributors to greenhouse-gas emissions per capita so these cool cities wil solve this problem.
In conclusion, Abu Dhabi is building cool cities to save good environments for the future. Cool cities include some islands which will reduce greenhouse emissions.
